Foreign investment in Cuba constitutes a pillar to boost the development of the economy today. For the Business Group of the Iron and Steel Industry (GESIME) it is an important work strategy that pursues the financing of productions and services, the introduction of modern and flexible technologies that allow raising levels of productivity and competitiveness according to international standards, the training of workers in new production and management techniques, as well as the diversification and expansion of export markets.

With these purposes, GESIME inserted ten projects in the portfolio of opportunities for foreign investment in our country from the 2019-2020 period, by the modalities of mixed company and international economic association contract, which were presented in the framework of the recent XXXVII edition of the Havana International Fair.

The project of the company ELEKA that pursues the constitution of a mixed company for the manufacture of electrical and telephone conductors in greater quantity, quality and assortment, which responds to the growing national demand for these products for the national energy program and by sectors such as telecommunications, digital television, investments in tourism, the housing program, among others.
For the modernization and expansion of the bus and minibus industry, the Company "Evelio Prieto Guillama", CAISA, proposes a joint venture project, which pursues above all the factory remodeling of this entity to expand its productive capacities destined for the sector of the public transportation and tourism mostly.

The Company of Metallic Productions COMETAL pursues the achievement of an international economic association contract that allows to acquire a production line of parts, pieces and components of elevators, which guarantees the substitution of imports to the country for this concept, and enables the assembly of elevators at home and supplies for after-sales service.

This company also defends a project that supports the national and international wholesale and manufacture of expanded polyurethane sandwich panels, at the CARIMET factory, which is in operation and has a high productive capacity, however, maintenance is necessary. technology and improve the competitiveness of the value chain (import-production-marketing) through effective productive linkages between the actors involved.
On the other hand, the Metal Container and Containers Company, ENVAMETAL, leads several projects.

There is the UEB NOVALUM, which seeks to expand and modernize the production of rigid tobacco pipes with the objective of satisfying the demands of the Cuban market and to carry out future exports with higher quality and competitive production. .

There is also the UEB Armando Mirabal, aimed at modernizing the tinplate packaging production line, through the constitution of a mixed company, which would pay to replace the high volumes of imports of packaging from the food industry (for packaging canned vegetables, fruits and meats) and chemistry (storage of paints); and to the achievement of the export of these containers.

While the "Noel Fernández" Factory (CONFORMAT) is committed to a project to renew the production line of 10 Kg cylinders for liquefied gas. So that the work in this factory is humanized using new and more productive technologies and at the same time a product of optimum quality and in greater volumes is generated. This will be oriented not only to the growing domestic market but also to exports in the Latin American and Caribbean area.

On the other hand, the project for the production and commercialization of batteries by the Accumulator Company "XX Anniversary" was presented, by the modality of mixed company. The project seeks the introduction of new product lines such as deep discharge batteries for UPS computers, bicycles and electric motorcycles, which would have a great impact in light of the growing demand for these products in the national market, especially in the current energy context and at the same time it would decrease negative incidences to the environment. Likewise, the project seeks to replace imports with an increase in the productive capacity of the car battery plant.

Another project for the mixed company modality consists of the creation of an aluminum packaging industry (for soft drinks and beers) in the Mariel Special Development Zone, which allows them to replace their imports and achieve the necessary production chain with the food industry. . The project includes the creation of productive capacities for 800 million containers per year at first, and in a second stage it foresees the increase of these up to 1,200 million from small investments, with the aim of covering the demand of national clients with the which will be growing according to your investment strategies.

Also in the Mariel Special Development Zone, GESIME plans the creation of an industry for the production and marketing of economic and luxury taps, with the constitution of a mixed company. The Cuban market demands around 400 thousand physical units of luxury taps, mainly destined for the chain of Store Chains, tourism works and investments and other national clients, and some 6 million economic taps, which would be produced endogenously. with quality and low production costs, allowing import substitution.
