Where steel melts, professionalism melts

Alexis Hernández Tejeda, ensures that the mixture is in its proper measure.
The Acinox Company of Las Tunas, a distinguished producer of stainless steel, carbon and steel bars for concrete reinforcement, has a great reputation with national clients and from countries such as Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
This acceptance is given by the trust in products of proven quality. In Acinox Las Tunas, very close to the high-temperature boilers from where the steel is produced, there is a laboratory specialized in various types of tests that determine the composition of the metal. From there Alexis Hernández Tejeda, ensures that the mixture is in its proper measure.
"The function of the laboratories is to provide services to the client, fundamentally that of production processes, to evaluate the chemical composition of the metal according to elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorous, sulfur and silicon. Everything must be done with precision to obtain the highest reliability in the results, in the shortest possible time. ”
Alexis has been working in the laboratory since 2006. At the beginning, he was an analyst but in time he became the main specialist of his brigade. One of his professional challenges is to periodically achieve laboratory accreditation according to high standards.
“The previous year we were the only one of 11 laboratories (among which some from developed countries were represented) that had no indication of the results it provided to the supplier. The work has been very rewarding. Thanks to the management of the instrumental laboratory, the company recently managed to accredit its productions ».
Counters are specialized equipment that determine the chemical composition of products. Without them, it is impossible to evaluate the properties of metals at the time of casting and, therefore, their quality. But its maintenance is becoming increasingly complex.
“When this equipment was acquired in the 90's of the last century, it was from a Swiss supplier that had no problem to replace refractions or maintain us; But then when it passed into the hands of an American company, these efforts were completely difficult for us. To obtain the spare parts we had to do it through a Mexican firm that provided us with an agreement with a German company ».
To enter this site, first of all you have to take off your shoes, because the dust that is generated in industrial processes cannot get there, everything is spotless. Alexis together with all the laboratory team shows each part of the installation and explains that in each team there is a story, both of obstacles and creativity.
There is no doubt that the Las Tunas Stainless Steel Company is an international reference thanks to the work of many men and women. The competence of laboratory workers is also an inseparable part of the metal of excellence that is melted there.
